MABC Social Series: Summer 2024

Over the past four weeks, MABC has been buzzing with excitement as we hosted our biannual Business House Bowls series. This year's event featured 32 triples teams, coming together to enjoy friendly competition and build lasting memories.

The Format

The series was divided into two sections, each comprised of 16 teams ready to take on the challenge. Teams competed in a round-robin format, playing against each other every week to earn points based on their performance. The top-performing team from each week was awarded a prize, along with an overall section winner who will then go on to represent MABC at the Auckland Social Finals in April.

The Teams

Our series attracted a diverse range of teams, from local businesses to friends and families, long-standing rivals to first-time players, all eager to take the title. Each team brought their unique flair, with many now sporting customised team uniforms, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the tournament.

The Highlights

Week after week, the competition heated up as teams battled it out on the green.

Our seasoned social bowlers saw an intense rivalry throughout the series in Section 1. Sweet As and Grow Financial were up against each other in the first week, only for it to result in a draw keeping the overall scores down to the wire until the very end. Bambinos and Lawn Stars were in the running for one the top spots until the third week, with a couple of losses each seeing them drop to the middle of the table. The Mighty Lions started and finished with a loss, but their wins throughout the series were enough to keep them in the running. Newcomers Luminate showcased their potential, as they took out some of the top teams along the way but not quite enough wins saw them finish in third place.

In Section 2, there weekly spots for first and second were shared among several teams including Irritable Bowl Syndrome, Get out of the Gutter, Levi’s Wranglers, Lux and Co, Brewster Hunnies and Goat Biscuit. However, it was the Quackerjacks who emerged as the team to beat from the beginning. With their experienced bowler away in Week 3, the team saw their first loss, giving the other teams a chance to overtake. However, their consistency throughout the series paid off, earning them the top spot in their section.

After four weeks of thrilling competition, we are delighted to announce the winners of our Social Lawn Bowls Series:

Section 1 Winner: Sweet As
