Back-to-back National Pairs Champions

The dynamic duo of Gary Lawson and Tony Grantham have defended their National Pairs title. This awards Grantham his National Gold Star (5 national titles), while Lawson clinches his 16th national title, and his seventh National Pairs title.

Their journey to back-to-back titles began with an undefeated run in the qualifiers, scoring no less than 20 points in each game. It was down-to-the-wire in their quarter-final against Raymond Martin and William Bennett, their opponents in last year’s final. The semi-final saw them take down the international team of Seamus Curtin and Paul Prior, a notable victory as Curtin, alongside Andrew Kelly, defeated the Lawson-Grantham team in the 2022 final.

Facing off against Hamish and Ethan Kelleher in the final, the reigning champs set out to a strong lead of 12-4 after 10 ends. The Kelleher brothers put on a superb performance and clawed their way back, creating suspense at 15-13 in the final end. Holding a singular shot, Lawson was left not needing to play his final bowl to secure the win.

Congratulations to all of the 2024 Nationals Champions, we look forward to seeing the rest of the season unfold.
